Foi há pouco mais do que uma semana que acabou a VI TransPortugal Garmin, e os últimos atletas internacionais já regressarem a casa. Recebemos muitos comentários positivos, o que nos leva a acreditar que toda a gente gosto imenso da prova. Nas palavras do participante inglês Barry Matthews "É realmente um acontecimento único, extremamente exigente, mas extremamente gratificante completar, muito bem organizada e extremamente amigável".

Obviamente, também recebemos algumas críticas e comentários sobre o que poderíamos fazer para tornar a VII edição ainda melhor, agradecemos e iremos tomar em conta tudo o que nos foi dito, na altura de começar a planear a prova de 2009.
Para ter certeza que toda a gente que tem algo a dizer o faça, vamos enviar questionários a todos os atletas na próxima semana. Estes questionários são sempre uma fonte de informação valiosa para nós.

As datas para a edição 2009 do TransPortugal Garmin já foram marcadas. A prova decorrerá de 31 de Maio a 7 de Junho. As inscrições abrem no dia 1 de Outubro 2008, as 00:00 GMT. A prova deste ano encheu rapidamente, com mais de metade dos lugares tomadas nas primeiras 24 horas depois das inscrições abrirem. Temos a certeza que irão esgotar ainda mais rápidamente para a prova de 2009, por isso não esqueça, esteja por perto do seu computador no momento da abertura das inscrições.

Se ficou seduzido pela prova, pelos trilhas que percorremos, pelas as aldeias que nós cruzamos, as paisagens que atravessamos, mas acha que esta prova é um pouco demais para o seu nível de andamento, ou se gostaria de ter tempo para parar e falar com as pessoas, ter tempo para tirar fotografias e saborear a natureza, então você pode estar interessado na Travessia de Portugal em BTT que são duas semanas e organizamos mesmo antes desta prova. No próximo ano estaremos a organizar a "Travessia" de 02 a 16 de Maio. Caso não possa nestas datas, pode sempre contactar-nos e podemos organizar uma especificamente para um grupo de 6 ou mais pessoas.

Finalmente, se quer vestir as cores da TransPortugal Garmin, temos boas noticias. Devido ao enorme sucesso da jersey da prova, vamos fazer mais uma encomenda. Tenha atenção porque os tamanhos têm medidas europeias, por exemplo o “S” é mesmo pequeno. Por último, uma palavra de parabéns para alguns “finishers” da TransPortugal Garmin 2008. Enquanto alguns atletas admitiram não querer ver as suas bicicletas de novo por algum tempo, outros quiseram de imediato enfrentar novo desafio. Uma prova de 24H em Lisboa. Em equipas, ou em solo, Adelino Santos, Mario Pedro Soares, Marco Almeida e Ricardo Melo, (as nossas desculpas se esquecemos alguém), estiveram lá a competir no passado fim de semana. Pelos vistos a TransPortugal Garmin foi um bom treino: Ricardo Melo venceu a categoria de homens em Solo, pedalando mais do que 380 km em 24h.

It has been just over a week since the VI TransPortugal Garmin ended and the last of the international racers have gone home. From all the feedback we have received we believe everyone enjoyed the race. In the words of Barry Matthews from the UK “It really is a unique event, extremely challenging, but very satisfying to complete, very well organised and extremely friendly.”

Obviously we have also received some critiques and comments on what we could do to make the VII edition even better, and we will be taking them on board as we start planning the 2009 race. To be sure everyone that has something to say gets in touch with us, we will be sending out questionnaires to all the racers within the next week or so. These are always a valuable source of information for us.

The dates for the 2009 edition of the TransPortugal Garmin have already been fixed. The race will run from 31st May to 7th June. Registration for the race opens on the 1st October 2008 at 00:00GMT. The race filled up quickly this year, with over half the places taken in the first 24 hours of registration, we are sure they will go even quicker this year, so make sure you are by your computer on the 1st October!

If you were tempted by the race, by the trails we ride, the villages we cross, the scenery we have shown you, but think that the race is a bit too much for your riding level, or you would like to take your time, stop to talk to the people on the way, take photos, savour the nature, then you may be interested in the two week tour we run immediately prior to the race. Next year we will be running the “Travessia” from 2nd to 16th May. Finally, a word of congratulations to a number of TransPortugal Garmin finishers. While some racers admitted not wanting to see their bikes again in quite some time, a few headed straight off to the next challenge. A 24H race in Lisbon. In teams, or riding solo, Adelino Santos, Mario Pedro Soares, Marco Almeida and Ricardo Melo were all present (apologies if we missed anyone). It would seem the TransPortugal Garmin was good training: Ricardo Melo won the men's solo, riding over 380 km in 24H.
